Double Degree Program

Double Degree Program between Chulalongkorn University (CU) and University of Liverpool (UoL)

Admission

For a double Ph.D. degree program, students may apply with a Master’s level degree with a GPA of no lower than 3.5 or a Bachelor’s level degree with honor. Applicants will be subject to an interview and an evaluation of previous research project/s as part of the selection process for admission.

Students must have an adequate standard of both spoken and written English language to be admitted to the double degree program. The required assessed level of English language is the achievement of a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with no score lower than IELTS 5.5 in all bands) or a minimum TOEFL IBT score of 88.

Student registration and financial arrangements

Students registered for the double degree program will be registered as full-time students by both universities. Students will study for a minimum of six months full time at each university. As this double degree program constitutes a student exchange program and so tuition fees at UoL for CU students in this program are waived. However, the student involved in the exchange must pay for their travel, lodging and meals.

Program transfer

A student will not normally be permitted to transfer into the double degree program after initial registration on a single award research program of either university. However, students in their 1st or 2nd year of registration may request to transfer to the double award. Such requests will be considered by the joint Program Team and if agreed, the student would be expected to be registered on the double award by the fourth year for Ph.D. student.

Supervision arrangements

All students will be assigned at least two supervisors for the duration of their program. At least one supervisor will be assigned from UoL who will be a member of academic staff employed by UoL. At least one supervisor will be assigned by CU who will be employed by CU. Students must be assigned a primary and a second supervisor at each institution. All supervisors must be research-active and hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree that is acceptable to both institutions.
